HERITAGE WEEK 13th – 21st August


We have a great selection of events happening in Coole Park throughout Heritage Week 13th – 21st August, including theatrical productions, guided walks and nature activities to inspire appreciation of our cultural and natural heritage in this beautiful Nature Reserve. 

All events are free and begin from the Visitor Centre.

Please note that only guide dogs are permitted at these events.

No booking is required and events will operate on a first come first served basis.


Sat 13thth: 11am – 12pm “Open Your Eyes to Nature”:  Aimed towards children aged 5-12 and will include fun activities exploring nature through the senses. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Sun 14th: 11am – 12.30pm “The Seven Woods of Coole”: Join us on a guided tour of the majestic woodlands immortalised by WB Yeats

Weds 17th: 11am – 12.30pm “What Went On Behind High Walls”: Come on a guided walk to visit two of the Walled Gardens in Coole Nature Reserve. Learn about the creation of microclimates, organic gardening and sustainability during the Gregory era (1768 – 1932)

Thurs 18th: 2.30pm – 4pm “The Story of Coole”: A guided walk giving an introduction to the history of the Coole estate, the life of Lady Gregory and some of the many famous guests who came to visit.

Fri 19th: Wild Child Day: Call in to the Visitor Centre to pick up some fun nature activity sheets for the kids.

Sat 20th & Sun 21st: @ 2pm Wild Swans Theatre Company: “Wandering Stars” by Joe Hassett will be performed in the Audio Visual theatre in the Visitor Centre. This play explores the intertwined lives of Yeats and Joyce and Nora Barnacle.

Sun 21st: 11am – 12.30pm “Coole Demesne: A Working Estate”: Discover what remains of the original buildings here at Coole to get a sense of day to day life in the Gregory Demesne. Learn about some of the self-sufficient workings of the estate with an NPWS guide.
